Our clients, a young family with children, bought this fourth floor apartment for two main reasons: firstly, it has a spacious living area with a great, unobstructed view of a grove. Secondly, it has the right layout and capacity to accommodate three bedrooms and a guestroom.
We were asked to make the fewest possible interventions in order to keep the three existing bedrooms while providing for a master bedroom with an en suite douche. Also, to create extra storage space near the apartment’s entrance. The owners were dreaming of a modern fully renovated home with a light and airy ambiance.
We designed an extra room in the large hallway entrance to serve as a garderobe. This cube shaped room is made of fluted glass with a minimalistic metal frame. Being semi-transparent in daylight it blurs in to its environment becoming unnoticeable.
To enhance natural lighting in the parents’ bedroom we changed the building material on a large area of the outer wall adjacent to the building’s skylight. The wall was made of bricks which we replaced with frosted glass blocks. This allows diffused light to enter the room and produces a soothing, relaxing atmosphere.
