Villa Somnium

This small villa, on the island of Paxos, is placed at a gorgeous spot. Though it feels pleasingly remote, it is located above the picturesque Marmari beach and within walking distance of Loggos village. The owners requested a new layout to enhance indoor - outdoor flow and also to functionally upgrade the interior and outdoor plans.

We redesigned the house. We created a sun protected courtyard with a side wall created by the original large stone rocks in front of the main entrance. We rearranged the living room, kitchen and dining area to be able to connect with the shaded patio and the open air veranda that leads to the sun deck and the pool. The staircase to the mezzanine, that hosts a guest bedroom, is a key feature of the design. Beneath it we placed a kitchen island with a magnificent view towards the garden.

Regarding materials and colours we proposed terracotta tiles, mint green colour on doors, windows and railing and natural colour wood for the staircase, the roof beams and ceiling and the mezzanine floor. It came as a welcomed surprise that our clients instantly and enthusiastically approved all our proposals! This harmonious and pleasant collaboration resulted, in their words: “in an elegantly simple and relaxed interior with a homely feel”. They named the villa Somnium, meaning dream in Latin, since their guests and they themselves enjoy restful sleep and peaceful dreams during their stay.
